  • Be 21 years of age

Job Tasks:

  • Lifting and carrying heavy bodies
  • Apply cosmetics to the deceased

Early embalmers:

Documented embalming started as early as the Civil War. Many men were military surgeons, and they soon found the financial benefits of embalming. Few of them followed the war to continue the job.
It wasn't until the twentieth century that embalming became an accepted practice.
